Town of Alfred Wind Power Project
Informational Meeting Held for Wind Project in the
Town of Alfred
November 17, 2008
The public wind power project information meeting
was held on Monday, November 17, 2008 at 7:00 pm at
the Alfred Station Fire Hall. A representative from
Empire Wind gave a presentation followed by a
question and answer period.
"The meeting went very well. There were about
130 community members in attendance including
residents from Hartsville. We are starting to
get questions and we're considering creating an
FAQ page to publish the most frequently asked
questions and answers on this website."
Additionally,
an online public Poll seeking resident's opinions
has been set up and is available
at
www.AlfredNY.biz
Mr. David Williams, Town of Alfred resident and
owner of the AlfredNY.biz website has donated the
time and skills necessary for this survey to the
Alfred Community.

Alfred New York Wind Power Survey
Wind Power is a renewable energy source used to generate electricity by
converting wind energy into mechanical energy which is then converted to
electrical energy.
We have changed our survey & polling software site.
Original data collected from 11/05/08 through 11/06/08
is as follows:
64 submissions were gathered.
Yes: 87.5%
No: 4.7%
Not Sure: 7.8%
It is unclear exactly how many
submissions were lost when our original provider's server went off-line. We apologize for any inconvenience.

The problems that Cohocton has experienced serve as a
reminder that everything from logistics, to payments, to
road damage need to be our top concern.
Promises are nice - but, c'mon people. |
|
|
|
I want to know two things. Why the 50 mills in Cohocton were
conceived and constructed in less time than it took them to
begin feeding the grid. And where's the money? The last
thing I heard was that neither Cohocton nor Nunda were
receiving the funds promised. |
|
|
|
I want to know what the long term effects and negative
impacts (if any) have been realized by residents in
communities that have used the turbines for a long period of
time. |
|
"Everyone wants electricity - but nobody wants to live next
to a substation." ~ We will all be forced to look at
these! |
|
Noisy too. The tips are going a couple of hundred miles an
hour. |
|
Are you kidding me? These things are an eyesore an unsafe
for birds. |
|
It's obvious that a few will profit from the wind power
project. The question remains - How will town residents
benefit from this project? |
|
Windmills have been around for ages. While they are no where
near the size of the proposed turbines - they too were once
a subject of heated debates. Bring on the turbines. |
|
As community members and Americans we need to do everything
within our power to mitigate the needs for foreign power.
Everyone wants electricity - but nobody wants to look at a
sub-station or high tension lines. Renewable energy, local
jobs, with a small impact on our scenic landscape is worthy
of our interests toward our long term energy needs. |
